A Georgia man was arrested early this morning (July 30) after reportedly fleeing from police on a motorcycle and crashing on South Main Street.
Bowling Green Police were patrolling in the downtown area around 2:23 a.m., when they noticed David Maddox, 38, of Dewy Rose, Georgia, leaving the city parking lot behind the bars on North Main Street, driving a yellow Yamaha sport bike. Maddox reportedly made a U-turn and failed to use turn signals, so police initiated a traffic stop at South Main Street and Pearl Street.
Maddox allegedly continued westbound on Pearl Street, where he failed to stop at the stop sign at Church Street, then was clocked at 86 mph on Pearl. He nearly crashed when attempting to turn south onto Donbar Avenue, then reportedly drove through a front yard to turn around. According to the police report, he then went eastbound on Pearl, passing vehicles on the street, then turned south onto South Main Street.
Maddox reportedly reached speeds of over 100 mph on South Main Street, before crashing just north of the U.S. 6 overpass.
BG EMS was called to the scene, and transported Maddox to Wood County Hospital.
According to the police report, Maddox had slurred speech, glassy eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol. He reportedly refused a breath test, so his driving privileges were suspended.
It was discovered that Maddox had three prior convictions for operating a vehicle while impaired, so police got a search warrant for a blood test.
Maddox was transported to another hospital due to the nature of his injuries.
He was cited for failure to comply, OVI refusal, OVI, speed, and failure to maintain control. An additional charge of felony fleeing and alluding was issued as a warrant.
