Property tax increases and the need to adequately fund our public schools are two of the top concerns I hear when speaking with my constituents – especially seniors on a fixed income and young families grappling with rising housing costs.
As a founding member of BG Families for Schools, I’ve spent years advocating for our public schools. This is one of the best investments our community can make. However, with the cost of living at an all-time high, it’s getting harder and harder to ask our local community to shoulder more of the burden – all while Columbus gives tax breaks to trillion-dollar companies and lines the pockets of their billionaire friends.
We need representatives who will fight to adequately fund our public schools and provide meaningful property tax relief to those who need it most – not continue to shift more of the burden onto local taxpayers.
With this in mind, I look forward to supporting Rick Rettig for state representative this November. As a public school teacher and local elected official, Rick understands both sides of this equation. He knows firsthand how important strong public schools are to our kids and our communities, and he understands the very real impact rising property taxes have on the people we represent.
Most importantly, Rick won’t just show up for a photo op and listen to our concerns, he’ll take those concerns back to Columbus and fight for substantive reforms that will improve the everyday lives of Bowling Green residents. We should expect nothing less.
