Nicholas Logan Wray, 44 years old, of Brooklyn, MI, passed away on August 2, 2026 after living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) for four and a half years.
Nick was born November 11, 1981 in Bowling Green, OH to parents Kelly Wray and Sandra Mencer-Klonaris. After graduating from Bowling Green High School in 2000, Nick attended Bowling Green State University earning a Bachelors Degree in Communications.
Nick worked a variety of jobs, but most loved being a barista at Grounds for Thought in Bowling Green where he was a Manager for many years. He eventually bought a home in Columbus, OH where worked for Nationwide Insurance. He was a drummer and played for numerous bands in his life. In Columbus he met a group of fellow musicians who formed the band So Long Stargazer (SLS) which recorded 2 CD’s which are available on most streaming services.
Nick was fluent in French, loved to travel, and visited England, France, Italy and Greece in his short life, finding he loved the laid-back European vibe… and the rich European coffee! His favorite place was Aruba where he vacationed numerous times.
When Nick was wheelchair bound and rapidly losing the use of his arms and hands, he applied for the clinical trial Neuralink, a brain-computer interface. He was accepted and had the implant installed at the University of Miami as part of the Project to Cure Paralysis in July 2025. He was P8, patient 8, the 8th person in the world to receive the revolutionary technology. With it, he was able to use his phone, his laptop and play video games, just using his mind. He considered the Neuralink and his contribution to the knowledge of the human brain to be his purpose and it totally transformed his outlook for the last year of his life.
Nick is survived by his partner Alexia Lovejoy, his parents Kelly (Angela) Wray and Sandy (Nikki) Mencer-Klonaris, his sisters Bethany (Will) Robb and Lily Schmidt, brothers Trevor and Connor Wray, and a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A funeral mass will be held on October 3rd at 11:00 am for family and friends at the Saint Joseph Shrine in Brooklyn, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be sent to ALS of Michigan or Hospice of Lenawee.
