Traffic had to be stopped on Interstate 75 early Tuesday morning (Oct. 13) to allow Bowling Green Fire Division to put its aerial ladder up to rescue a man on the outside of the fencing on the East Wooster Street overpass.
Bowling Green Police responded to the overpass around 2:20 a.m., for a man walking along the north edge of the bridge over I-75, outside of the fencing. The man, Aaron Lockett, 18, of South Euclid, Ohio, told police that he had no intention to harm himself, but was unable to sleep and was looking for views to clear his head. He was grasping the fence tightly, and followed an officer’s instructions to move along the bridge edge to a spot closer to a street light and a wider platform to stand on.
Police shut down all traffic on the East Wooster overpass, and the Ohio State Patrol blocked northbound traffic on I-75. The BG Fire Division then staged under the overpass and raised the bucket of the aerial truck up to rescue Lockett.
Lockett was charged with inducing panic and criminal trespassing, and was taken to Wood County Jail.
Northbound traffic on I-75 was shut down for about 24 minutes, according to the police report.
