Troopers from the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol
investigated an injury crash that occurred on northbound Interstate 75, near the Wooster Street exit, City of Bowling Green, Wood County. The crash closed the northbound exit at mile post 181 for a period of time.
On Jan. 31, at approximately 1:43 p.m., a 2019 Dodge Ram 2500 pick-up truck, operated by Djhonia Selph, 48, of Columbus, was driving in the left lane when it drove off the right side of the road and struck the gore. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn and slide on its side before coming to rest in the roadway.
Selph suffered minor injuries and did not need to be transported to the hospital. The vehicle had three passengers who all sustained minor injuries and were transported to Wood County Hospital by ambulance. The passengers were Channell Conley, 33, and Chekina Tema, 26, both of Columbus, and Corinthia Williams, age 32, of Detroit.
All occupants were wearing their safety belts. Airbags did deploy and the vehicle sustained heavy damage. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor regarding this crash.
“Had the vehicle occupants not been wearing their safety bets, this crash could have been a lot worse,” said Lieutenant Angel R. Burgos, commander of the Bowling Green Post. “This is an example of where wearing a safety belt prevented more serious injuries and saved lives, demonstrating why it is so important to always buckle up.”
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Bowling Green State University Police Department, the Bowling Green Division of Police, the Bowling Green Division of Fire, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and Pat & Son Towing and Recovery.
The driver was cited for failure to maintain control of her vehicle.
