Movies from the ‘Golden Age of Hollywood’ to be shown at senior center

Join the Wood County Committee on Aging and our host, film buff Dr. John Blinn, as he presents a bi-weekly film series at the Wood County Senior Center. 

Blinn’s selections, plucked from the Golden Age of Hollywood, include personal favorites and seldom-seen classics. Each film is introduced by Blinn, and following the viewing, enlightening discussion is welcome.  The screenings are free of charge to individuals of all ages. Popcorn will be provided.

Tuesday, March 3, 1 p.m. “Call Northside 777” (1948) starring James Stewart and Richard Conte. Discovering that a man convicted of a murder over a decade before may in fact be innocent, a Chicago journalist embarks on an investigation in search of the truth. This drama was based upon the true story of journalist Jim McGuire and wrongly convicted prisoner Joe Majczek.

Tuesday, March 17, 1 p.m. – “The Irish in Us” (1935) a drama starring James Cagney, Olivia de Havilland, and Pat O’Brien. The film is about an Irish family consisting of a mother and three sons: a cop, a fireman, and a boxing promoter. Encouraged to find a real job, the boxing promoter makes one last attempt by promoting a fighter he believes will bring him a fortune. 

The series commences at 1 p.m., the first and third Tuesday of each month, at the Wood County Committee on Aging Senior Center, 304 N. Main St., Bowling Green.
