Brian Paskvan, Ph.D., long-time Bowling Green resident and higher education administrator, is seeking a position on the Bowling Green City Schools Board of Education and will be on the ballot this Nov. 7.
Paskvan is a retired higher education administrator who has extensive experience in leading large-scale transformation for education, building high functioning teams and allocating human and capital resources to meet long-term strategic visions.
“Our schools are the heart of Bowling Green,” said Paskvan. “The kids we serve deserve the best. My vision is simple and covers five key areas: support student success by providing access to the right learning environment, implementing challenging and proven curriculum, seeking the very best in talent to lead and teach our children, communicate clearly and often with the public and be good fiscal stewards.”
Paskvan’s five-point platform is built on decades of experience as a higher education administrator. He held leadership positions at the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University and Owens State Community College before his retirement in 2016. At Owens Paskvan served on the Cabinet as Vice President for Administration, the Executive Assistant to the President and numerous other senior level positions. Additionally, in those roles, he was responsible for driving change, managing multi-million dollar budgets, supervising teams across business services, maintaining and building facilities, financial aid as well as interfacing with parents and the public.
“I have grandchildren who attend and will attend BG schools. My children attended BG schools,” Paskvan added. “My desire is to protect our educational system to ensure our community is considered one of the best places to raise a family. Strong schools signal a strong community.”
Paskvan, Bowling Green’s 2023 Outstanding Citizen of the Year, and his wife Becky have lived in Bowling Green for more than 25 years. He is actively involved in many areas of the community including supporting Wood County District Public Library as a Board of Trustee member and past Board President, Wood County Public Library Foundation President, Past President of the local American Cancer Society Board of Directors and is involved in the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce.
Paskvan has a Bachelor of Business Administration, Master of Education and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Toledo. His studies focused on operations management, human resource development and higher education administration.
