Wood Lane Residential Services is hosting a Ghouls Night Out for its annual Purses with a Purpose event on Oct. 26 at the Veteran’s Building in Bowling Green City Park.
More than a dozen designer purses by such designers as Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Coach and others, will be awarded to ticket holders during the event from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The drawings for the designer purses will be held every 10 minutes between 5:45 and 8:15 p.m.
The selection of purses this year includes a wide variety of sizes and colors, and they are valued between $275 and $700, said Kristie Peek, WLRS community relations and event coordinator.
She said that in keeping with the Ghouls Night Out theme, attendees are encouraged, but not mandated to wear Halloween costumes to be in the running for best individual or group costume prizes. Food will be served by Beckett’s including hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and beverages. A cash bar will also be available.
In addition to the purse giveaways, there will be six to eight live auction items auctioned by emcee Jerry Anderson, approximately 30 raffle baskets, 20 silent auction items, a 50-50 drawing and much more. Sue Shank cookies, a Blackstone Griddle and a Home Depot drill are among the live auction items.
“It’s amazing the number of people and businesses who have donated gift cards, items from stores and services,” Peek said. She is combining some of the items together to make the raffle baskets, such as a car detail from Crozier Body Shop and a Thayer oil change. The baskets and the silent auction will be in the side room, to provide ample space for people to move around in the main event space.
“There will be a lot going on in the side room, so we’ll be encouraging people to get up to check it out throughout the evening,” she said.
All proceeds from the evening go toward the independence and quality of life of those served through Wood Lane Residential. Funds will also help with ongoing transportation needs as well as opportunities for residents to enjoy activities such as trips to Cedar Point and Mud Hens games.
The VIP tables are sold out, and there is a waitlist for $40 tickets for those who are interested in attending. Details are found on Eventbrite.com.
Peek said they are still accepting additional sponsorships ($250 for Spooky, $500 for Pumpkin and $1,000 for Ghoul), or items for raffle baskets, the silent auction or live auction. Modern Woodmen of America is providing matching funds up to $2,500 for the event.
“It’s not just about raising money, but also raising awareness for those we serve and the good things we do in Wood County for those individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities,” Peek said.
