Dr. Dena M. Baker-Becker, 62, of Maumee, OH, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, with her husband and children at her side. She was born on May 6, 1961 in Bowling Green, OH to Robert and Joanne (Schmeltz) Baker. Dena married William A. Becker, on October 13, 1990 in Toledo, OH. Dena and William raised 3 children and celebrated just over 33 years of marriage together.
Dena received a Doctoral Degree and Master’s Degree from the University of Toledo along with an additional Master’s Degree from Bowling Green State University. She was a Professor of Educational Psychology; first for the University of Toledo and then retiring from Terra State Community College following over a 30-year teaching career. She was a member of the Maumee American Legion Auxiliary Post #320 where she enjoyed volunteering and spending time with veterans. She was also a huge fan of the University of Michigan football team. Dena also enjoyed baking, cooking, reading, and crafting. She liked being outdoors, which included gardening and birdwatching. However, it was Christmas, especially the music that she truly enjoyed. Family recalls the great joy she got when she watched all the Christmas Hallmark movies starting in November. With so much in life that brought her joy, it was her family that brought her the most joy and love of life.
In addition to her husband William, Dena is survived by her children: Devon Becker, Delaney Becker, and Kegan Becker all of Maumee along with brother, Robert (Kellie) Baker Jr., of Woodville. She was preceded in death by her parents.
There will be no public services at this time. Dena will be laid to rest at a family committal in Riverside Cemetery, Maumee, Ohio at a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials in Dr. Dena’s memory take the form of contributions to: The Maumee American Legion Auxiliary Post #320.
