The Bowling Green FFA chapter began this school year with the officer team assigning families they will be in charge of for the annual fruit sale and other activities throughout the year. They will compete in friendly competitions during meetings and other activities. The families were introduced with the Family Meet and Greet.
The start of the year means the start of Career Development Events (CDEs). The first one this year was soil judging. The chapter took five members to the District Ag and Urban Soils Judging in Wood County. The members included Drew Thomas, Henry Strow, Annie Urban, Casey Naus, and Aiden Thomas. They all participated in the ag soil judging. The team placed 14th overall.
The officer team was also able to hold a Greenhand welcome day in their classes. Officers planned activities to interact with the new members. This was another initiative to try to get the first year members more comfortable in FFA and in high school. By building strong relationships between the members and giving them a taste of the FFA, the officer team hopes to see more involvement throughout the year from these members.
The chapter ended the month with the Greenhand ceremonies, where the officers inducted the greenhands into the National FFA Organization. This was also the first official meeting of the year. After the Meeting, members and families were invited to the classroom and families explored the organization and the opportunities and activities that the BG FFA has to offer.
