From WOOD COUNTY EXTENSION OFFICE
The Wood County Extension Office will conduct a Dining with Diabetes series starting in March.
Dining with Diabetes is a cooking school and nutrition education program designed for people with diabetes and their family members or caregivers.
Approximately 13% of U.S. adults have diabetes, with 21% unaware of the diagnosis, according to the latest diabetes statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Additionally, 35% of U.S. adults have pre-diabetes with 85% of them unaware they have it. Combined, about 48% of adults have blood sugars above target. Uncontrolled diabetes can
lead to future complications.
In a series of four classes, that will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, March 4, 11, 18 and 25, participants will learn how to incorporate good, healthy cooking techniques and other practices into their own kitchens to help manage their blood glucose. Attendance is required at all four sessions. The classes will be held at the Wood County Extension Office, 639 S. Dunbridge Rd., Suite 1, Bowling Green.
During Dining with Diabetes, participants will:
- Sample delicious and easy recipes
- Gain new insights on healthy eating
- Learn new skills to manage your diabetes
- Discussion with a Registered Dietitian and
Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist
The classes are free for Wood County residents; however, seating is limited and on a first-come basis. For residents outside of Wood County, there is a $40 per person registration fee.
