BG Boom welcomes community with food, fun and fireworks for 4th of July festivities

The skies cleared and the fireworks display went on as planned, offering a display of colors lighting up the skies over the fairgrounds.

Heat and rain impacted the afternoon festival activities for BG Boom on Friday, but after the rain, temperatures cooled a bit, and the fireworks went off with plenty of booms, bangs, oohs and ahhs.

Even before corn is ready for harvest in northwest Ohio, an inflatable corn maze let young visitors get a jump on finding their way through the maze at the BG Boom pre-fireworks festivities.

BG Boom is hosted by the city of Bowling Green, Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce (BGCC), Visit BG Ohio (VBGO), Northwestern Ohio Tractor Pullers Association (NWOTPA), and the Wood County Agricultural Society (WCAS)

The inflatable games were a fun attraction for festival-goers.
With temperatures in the mid-90s and a heat index over 100 degrees, cold drinks helped battle the heat and keep visitors hydrated.

The food truck lineup included Big Daddy Sausage and More, Blue Collar BBQ, Manny’s Munchies, Simply D’lish, The Rolling Lemon, The Tamale Guy, Uncle Louie’s Food Truck, Franks Fries, Poppin George’s Kettle Corn, Icy Paw, Northcoast Deli & Mr. Melon 2, KK’s Rolling Beverage Company, Off the Rails Food Trolley, Puckers’ Fresh Lemonade, K&M Roasted Corn, and The Tucker Truck.

The Cocoon was one of the local organizations that hosted a table for information and a little bean bag tossing for a game of corn hole.

Local BGCC member organizations hosted activities and information tables for the children in attendance, including cupcakes with the BG Community Foundation. Western & Southern Life, Wood County Prosecutor’s Office, BG US Army Recruiting Center, and The Cocoon. Other participating organizations include Children’s Resource Center, Wood County ADAMHS, Wood County Hospital, Walmart, Meijer, and All Pro Mobile Oil Change each hosted games and giveaways along the fairgrounds midway and in the Home and Garden Building.

Bowling Green Community Foundation member Dave Maurer explains the Liberty Tree Mural Mosaic project that asks community members to paint tiles that will be combined into a giant mosaic and installed later this fall in the Bowling Green City Building.
This young girl was one of about 40 people who took time to paint a tile for the mural mosaic planned for the BG City Building.
When the rain and wind came through about 7 p.m., the inflatables were deflated, and many of the BG Boom festival activities were halted, at least while it was raining. After the rain stopped and it cooled a bit, the festivities continued, and the crowds showed up for the fireworks.

With support from Bowling Green and the community at large, Rozzi Fireworks once again put on a spectacular fireworks display that ended just before 11 p.m.

Like giant dandelions in the sky, the fireworks display ended BG Boom with a bang.

Additional sponsors for BG Boom Festivities and Fireworks were Bates Recycling, Belleville Brothers Meats, Ohio Logistics, VFW Post 1148, Meta, and Walmart.
