On behalf of the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce, we recognize the important contributions that the Wood County District Public Library, Wood County Committee on Aging, and Bowling Green Parks and Recreation make to the strength, vitality, and economic well-being of our community. While each organization serves a distinct purpose, together they help create the kind of community where residents can thrive, businesses can grow, employees and families want to live, and visitors are encouraged to return.
The Wood County District Public Library plays an important role in education, workforce development, and access to information and technology. Through educational resources, literacy programs, research tools, technology access, and lifelong learning opportunities, the library helps residents build skills, explore career opportunities, and remain engaged in a changing economy. These resources benefit students, job seekers, entrepreneurs, employers, and families while helping strengthen the workforce and contribute to the overall attractiveness of Wood County as a place to live, work, learn, and do business.
The Wood County Committee on Aging provides essential services that help older adults remain independent, active, and connected to their communities. It provides meals, transportation, caregiver support, wellness programs, social services, and other assistance to benefit older adults and their families throughout the county. These services contribute to residents’ quality of life while also supporting family caregivers and employers. When older adults have access to the assistance they need, family members may be better able to balance caregiving responsibilities with employment and other obligations. A community that supports residents at every stage of life is better positioned to maintain a strong, stable, and engaged workforce.
Bowling Green Parks and Recreation contributes to the community’s quality of life, tourism, and economic development through its parks, recreational facilities, trails, sporting events, tournaments, and community activities. Our chamber’s longstanding relationship with parks and recreation, strengthened through VisitBG Ohio operating under the chamber’s umbrella, reflects the important connection between recreational amenities and local economic vitality. Visitors who come to Bowling Green for sporting events, recreation, and community activities support hotels, restaurants, retailers, and other local businesses. At the same time, parks and recreational opportunities help attract and retain residents, families, and employees, supporting the community’s ability to compete for talent and encourage business investment.
Although these organizations serve different needs, their collective impact is significant. Educational access and workforce readiness help prepare people for employment and business opportunities. Senior service help older adults maintain independence while supporting families and caregivers. Parks and recreation enhance quality of life, attract visitors, and generate spending that benefits local businesses. Together, these services help build a community that is educated, accessible, welcoming, active, and economically resilient.
From a business and economic development perspective, a strong local economy depends on more than individual businesses alone. It also depends on the community resources, services, and amenities that help employers attract workers, families establish roots, residents remain engaged, and visitors contribute to the local economy. Investments in education, aging services, and recreation support these interconnected priorities and help create an environment in which businesses and residents can succeed.
We recognize that public funding decisions require thoughtful consideration, transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources. As voters consider the respective levies and funding proposals, we encourage community members to learn about each measure, understand the services it supports, and consider both its financial implications and its potential impact on the long-term well-being of our community.
The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce values the distinct roles of the Wood County District Public Library, Wood County Committee on Aging, and Bowling Green Parks and Recreation. We also recognize that, collectively, these organizations contribute to the quality of life, workforce strength, tourism, and economic vitality that make our community a desirable place to live, work, and do business.
A thriving community requires a strong partnership among businesses, public services, community organizations, and residents. We appreciate the work these organizations do to support that shared vision and encourage our community to remain informed and engaged in the decisions that shape our future.
