Bowling Green Police Division requested a warrant for a man who reportedly burglarized an apartment in the 1000 block of Third Street on Sunday afternoon.
A woman reported to police that Melvin James, 39, of Bowling Green, was hiding behind a door and scared her when she returned home. He reportedly had entered her apartment through the back door, which he had previously broken. Police had advised James back in August to not return to the apartment.
A neighbor told police that she saw James enter the apartment through the back door, then heard the woman inside scream and ask how he got in.
James allegedly told the woman he was going to rape her, then dragged her to the bedroom. The woman managed to break free, ran to the kitchen and grabbed a knife. James then fled the apartment.
