From CITY OF BOWLING GREEN
The Bowling Green Human Relations Commission honors grandparents raising their grandchildren on Grandparents Day, today, Sept. 13. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, approximately 3.7% of all children in the United States – around 2.74 million youth – are being raised by their grandparents. In Ohio alone, about 185,000 children under the age of 18 are being raised by at least one grandparent without a parent present in the home.
The HRC aims to support these grandparents by highlighting the kinship support groups that Wood County Educational Service Center provides. These groups meet in a casual environment, providing an opportunity for grandparents to connect with other caregivers, build a support network, and access information about available resources.
Meetings are held on Tuesdays at various locations throughout Wood County. Dinner and childcare are provided. While RSVPs are encouraged, they are not required. To RSVP, visit Wood County ESC website.
