From WOOD COUNTY AUDITOR’S OFFICE
Wood County Auditor Matthew Oestreich has announced information on the 2026 dog licensing renewal period. A total of 10,839 regular licenses, including 1-year or 3-year licenses, 89 permanent licenses, and 380 kennel licenses were issued. Ohio law requires that dogs three-month-of-age and older are registered and licensed annually, unless a three-year or permanent license has been purchased.
“In addition to complying with Ohio law, dog licensing helps lost dogs be reunited quickly with their owners and supports Wood County Dog Shelter operations,” Oestreich said.
The most common dog breeds in Wood County are mixed, 15.5%; Labrador Retriever, 5%, Golden Retriever, 3.4%; Golden Doodle, 3.1%, and German Shepherd, 2.9%. The top five names are Daisy, Bella, Lucy, Cooper, and Charlie.
The Wood County Commissioners partner with Humane Ohio to offer the “Big Fix” program, which provides reduced prices to have a dog spayed or neutered. The cost is $50 for dogs under 100 pounds and $100 for dogs over 100 pounds. Currently in Wood County, 76.4% of dogs are spayed or neutered, demonstrating the high level of responsible pet ownership existing in Wood County. Spaces for the program are limited, but dog owners may still take advantage of this program by calling Humane Ohio at 419-266-5607 or emailing info@humaneohio.org and mentioning “Wood County Big Fix.” A Wood County dog license and receipt are required to take advantage of this program. So far in 2026, two procedures have been completed and eight more are scheduled.
