Diane M. Vogtsberger, age 77, passed away at home on October 13, 2026.
Diane was born to the late Richard and Grace Bussman on August 27, 1949 in Queens, New York. She graduated from Northport High School in 1967 and joined her oldest brother, Jimmy, at Bowling Green State University. In 1972, Diane graduated with a degree in biology and English and later earned her Master’s in education.
She is survived by her daughters, Liz (Eric) and Kathleen (Michael), their father, Tom, her beloved granddaughter, Grace, her sister, Tracy, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Jimmy, Ricky, and Tommy, and her mother-in-law, June.
As an English teacher at both Bowling Green Junior and Senior High Schools, “Mrs. V.” made a lasting impact on her students. An intuitive and empathetic educator, she treated them with respect and truly listened to them. Through her thoughtful and creative lessons, she helped her students find connections between literature and their everyday lives. She formed enduring friendships with her colleagues and advocated tirelessly for BG City Schools.
After 40 years of teaching, Diane retired in 2011 and began her incredible second act. She and her lifelong friends, Nancy and Rita, traveled the world. Among her favorite destinations were Italy, Norway, the Greek Isles, and Alaska. She was a member of the Shakespeare Round Table and served on the board of the Wood County District Public Library Foundation. Over the years, she enjoyed regular lunches with her teaching colleagues and many meetings of her book club. One of her proudest achievements was her central role in establishing Wooster Green as a gathering place for the community.
Spending time with her loved ones was Diane’s greatest joy. With her family members in the Cleveland area, she found a second home filled with laughter and abundance. She delighted in dinners and holidays with her extended family in Bowling Green. She spent many happy hours by the water on Sanibel Island and in South Haven with her girls. She cherished her daily visits and local adventures with Kathleen, Mike, and Gracie, and loved being with Liz and Eric in L.A.
For her family and friends who remain behind, Diane was—and will forever be—our North Star. She lived with integrity and always met the moment. Genuinely curious about people and the world, she never stopped learning. When faced with an adventure, she booked the ticket and took the ride. Above all, her unconditional love and generosity made everyone around her feel seen, valued, and deeply loved.
Diane will be honored with a visitation at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 W. Wooster St., on Wednesday, October 21, 2026 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a celebration of life to be held a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Diane’s memory to the Wood County District Public Library Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green. To share an online condolence or fond memory with the family please visit www.dunnfuneralhome.com.
