Donald Morrison, 82, of Surprise and Pinetop, Arizona, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 24, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. He was born April 27, 1944, in Monclova, Ohio to Maynard and Fern Morrison.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Adams Morrison, and his siblings, Larry, Donna and Joyce. He is survived by his wife, Mary; son Mike, daughter-in-law Gretchen and granddaughter Madison; daughter Christy Ramos, son-in-law Alberto and grandsons Aiden and Jacob; stepdaughters Kelly Eckel and Susan Spencer Eckel, and grandchildren Jack and Julie.
Don dedicated 42 years to education, earning his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Specialist degrees from Bowling Green State University. His career began as a science and physical education teacher in Edgerton, Ohio, followed by principal positions in Archbold and Bowling Green Junior High. He later continued his career in Arizona, serving in administration at Vista del Sur Middle School and Desert Sky Middle School.
Don loved being an educator, but most of all, he loved people. He had a natural ability to connect with students, families and communities and left an impression wherever he went. Those who knew him will remember his kind heart, generous spirit, unforgettable personality and wonderful sense of humor.
Above all, Don’s greatest joy was his family. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather who showed up, cheered loudly and celebrated every accomplishment. He was his grandsons’ biggest football fan and treasured golf cart rides, hunting for golf balls and simply being together.
A passionate golfer and lifelong Ohio State Buckeyes fan, Don loved the simple traditions of life-a martini, a great steak and Caesar salad, hot dogs, a round of golf and time at Fripp Island. He adored his little dog Gizmo and was especially grateful for the special memory of attending The Masters with his son, Mike.
Don’s greatest legacy will always be the love he gave so freely to his family, his students and everyone fortunate enough to know him.
The family will be planning a Celebration of Life in Phoenix and likely Bowling Green, Ohio, with details to be announced.
