From WOOD COUNTY PARK DISTRICT
The 30th annual Friends of the Parks plant sale is an annual fundraiser supporting the conservation efforts of the Wood County Park District. Two types of plants can be purchased through the sale.
Annual garden plants can be ordered ahead of time through the order form available at wcparks.org/friends, or Friends of the Wood County Parks on Facebook. Native plants grown by the Wood County Park District Stewardship Department are available on a first-come, first-served basis on May 11, 2019 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. The annual plant pick-up time and location is the same as the native plant sale.
Native plants are local plant species that have grown here since before European settlers arrived. Pollinators and wildlife have adapted to use native plants for food and habitat making native plants essential to our food web and ecosystems. Planting native plants is beneficial for pollinators, creates more drought and flood resistant areas, sequesters more carbon than lawn grass, and are beautiful. Over 40 varieties of native plants will be available.
In 1989, following the passage of a levy for the Wood County Park District, the Friends of the Wood County Parks was formed. It soon became apparent to the board members that they needed funding to begin operations – hence, the idea for a plant sale was born. This year marks the 30th annual Spring Plant Sale! Yearly profit from the plant sale supports the many park-friendly projects of the Friends. Be sure to be a part of this year’s effort.
Order annual plants by May 3, 2019. Native plants cannot be pre-ordered.
