Senate President Rob McColley (R-Napoleon) has appointed Senator Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) to serve as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee for the remainder of the 136th General Assembly
The previous chair, former State Senator Nathan Manning, was appointed by Governor DeWine to the 9th District Court of Appeals on Aug. 3. He resigned from his Senate seat shortly after receiving the appointment.
“I am honored that the president has chosen me to chair this committee,” said Gavarone. “I’ve enjoyed working with Nathan Manning over the years and look forward to continuing his good work as chair of Judiciary.”
The Senate Judiciary Committee is currently hearing 65 pending bills, from both the House of Representatives and the Senate, including:
- HB 88: Regards drug trafficking, human trafficking, and fentanyl
- HB 565: Enact the Grand Jury Privacy and Protection Act
- SB 131: Clarify compensatory damages for damaged vehicles
- SB 370: Enhance penalties for offenses against a person with a disability
“As a current member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I am excited to oversee one of the busiest committees in the legislature,” Gavarone said. “I will bring a balanced viewpoint to the issues currently being heard, and will work with stakeholders, citizens and legislators, to ensure every bill we pass moves Ohio forward as the best place to live, work and raise a family.”
McColley announced the appointment of Gavarone as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Aug. 31st.
