Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur (OH-09), Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-06), and national and local labor leaders will host a public town hall on trade and tariffs at UAW Region 2B in Maumee on Wednesday, May 6, at 5 p.m.

The town hall event will focus on “building a fair trade agenda for the future” and how both parties can meaningfully address the decline of U.S. manufacturing and impacts left behind by trade deals like NAFTA.

Those wanting to attend can register and RSVP at actionnetwork.org/events/toledo-oh.

“Free trade deals backed by both parties have failed working class communities,” said Public Citizen’s Global Trade Watch Director Melinda St. Louis, who will help moderate the event. “We need trade policies that protect our unions, offer a fair deal to working people, and get billionaires out of our political system.”

Similar events are taking place throughout the Heartland and industrial Midwest this spring as elected officials, labor unions, and grassroots groups work to build a broad economic agenda to address growing inequality, unpredictable supply chains, and rising costs.

“We want to hear from working people, from farmers, from small business owners,” said Ryan Harvey, Public Citizen GTW national field director, who is organizing the tour through May and June. “Their experiences and ideas will shape policies that will address economic issues relevant to their lives.”
