The Wood County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a single vehicle crash on Wednesday (May 1) at 8:27 p.m., at Mears Road and Main Street in the village of Jerry City, with a single fatality.
The crash involved a white 2016 Chevrolet pickup operated by John Wansitler, 61, of Jerry City.
The investigation showed the pickup truck was traveling south on Mears Road at a low rate of speed when it went off the road to the right, just north of Main Street. It struck a stop sign, then continued across Main Street and into a yard until it eventually struck a utility pole and fence, and came to a stop with only moderate damage.
Wansitler was found unresponsive in the vehicle and was transported to Wood County Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. A possible medical issue is suspected.
Assisting on location were Mid-County EMS, Cygnet Fire Department, and Wright’s Towing.
The incident is still under investigation.
