‘Touch-A-Truck’ event to allow kids close up view of fire, police, construction and farming vehicles

The public is invited to a Touch-A-Truck event on Saturday, May 11, at Bowling Green High School. The event, hosted by the Leadership BG Class of 2024, will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon, with the first half hour reserved for quiet time.

Families are invited to see and experience the trucks that service the Bowling Green community every day. Vehicles that will be present include: a fire engine, ambulance, police cruiser, construction, agriculture, and service/utility vehicles. This event provides an opportunity for children to see the real-life versions of the toys they play with.

The cost of entry is a suggested – but not required – $10 donation per family.

There will be a 500-tennis-ball drop, with attendees being able to purchase a ticket and corresponding tennis ball for $10 the day of the event, while supplies last. At noon, all the tennis balls will be dropped from the top of the aerial ladder truck. The ball that lands closest to the target will win $500. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.

The proceeds from this event will be allocated to two local causes.Eighty percent of proceeds will benefit the Bowling Green City School’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) Program, which rewards students for behavior that exemplifies the school’s values. The other 20% of the proceeds will benefit Wood County Plays, an organization committed to creating inclusive playgrounds for children of all abilities.

Sponsors of the event include Mosser Construction, Brookdale Senior Living, The Copy Shop, Pinnacle Plastic Products, William Vaughan Company, Bowling Green Schools Foundation; Downtown Bowling Green Special Improvement District, Marsh & Rothenbuehler Attorneys, Wood County Hospital, Michael and Rachel Barnett; Wood Haven and Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

Leadership BG is a one-day per month commitment for nine months offered by the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce. It highlights a broad range of issues vital to the community. The program begins in September and runs through May each year. Through contact with a variety of experts in the fields of economic development, local government, health care, judicial system, manufacturing, social services, education, and leadership development, participants can expand their leadership skills, knowledge, and influence on their community.
