Here at Bowling Green Independent News we love writing. And we believe the stories we write should be accessible to the public – with no paywall.
So once again we are faced with the uncomfortable and unpleasant task of writing about our need for support. We try to do this as infrequently as possible, as we know many local residents are already stretched financially.
We know our product has value. We work hard to write stories that inform, entertain and inspire. And we do it on a shoestring budget.
So in case you are wondering if BG Independent News is worth your contribution, take a look at some of the stories we shared with you just in the last two weeks.
We told you about the 27 license plate reading cameras in BG, and how they differ from Flock cameras. We reported on the need for the city to redraw borders for its four council wards, on neighbors distraught about the data center being built in Middleton Township, and about BG’s iconic wind turbines being retired.
We introduced readers to people engaged in remarkable acts. About veterans from the senior center and teens from the juvenile residential center bonding over common ground. About a BGSU alumna competing in a 218-mile ultra marathon. About a woman’s book of love letters her father sent home during World War II. And about parents planning to feed all 600 BGSU marching band members at tailgaters before football games this fall.
We took readers to the National Tractor Pulling Championships, the Pemberville Free Fair, and the Rally on Main Street in BG. We wrote about the impact of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library on more than 4,000 children here in Wood County.
We share the lives of people who we’ve lost, with no charge for obituaries. We inform readers of upcoming concerts, theater performances, and speakers at the county museum. And we post letters of local residents expressing their delight and disdain.
And we are constantly planning ahead for more stories we want to share – about the upcoming Black Swamp Arts Festival, the issues and candidates on the November ballot, and so much more.
