Colonel Melvin T. Burner, age 79, of Woodville, OH passed away on Monday, August 15, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 15, 1936 in Bowling Green, OH to Walter and Opal (Ellsworth) Burner. On November 9, 1963 he married Dolores “Dee” Woyame in Fremont, OH. Melvin was enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War and Viet Nam War, retiring in 1996 as a Colonel. Later he and his wife owned and operated the Mel-O-Dee Bowl in Woodville. His memberships included: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Genoa, OH, Woodville American Legion Post #455 and Reserves Officers Association. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing, fishing and was an avid bowler.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 52 years: Dee, children: Shari (Jeff Dougherty) Albright of Williston, Terry (Heather) Burner and Craig (Beth) Burner both of Genoa, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, nieces: Debi and Donna and nephew: Steve all of Woodville. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin bother: Marvin Burner.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, August 19, 2016, from 2-5 & 6-8 PM at the Marsh Funeral Home, 201 West Main Street, Woodville, OH with a Scripture service being conducted at 7:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 12 Noon at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Genoa with additional visitation from 11 AM until time of services. Officiating will be Father Timothy Ferris. Interment will be in Westwood Cemetery, Woodville, OH. There will be a bereavement luncheon served at the church immediately following the cemetery committal services. Memorial contributions may be given to: Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or Kindred Hospice.
