Ohio EPA to hold public meeting on new glass plant in county

Ohio EPA is accepting public comments at an April 29 public meeting on a draft air emissions permit-to-install for a proposed float glass manufacturing plant in Luckey. NSG Glass North America is proposing to locate a new plant at 21705 Pemberville Road.

The public information session and hearing begins at 6 p.m. at the Pemberville Public Library, 375 E. Front St. A hearing will immediately follow during which the public can submit comments for the record concerning the draft permit.

If Ohio EPA approves the permit, it would allow construction of a manufacturing plant to produce coated float glass products primarily for the solar market. Float glass is made by floating sheets of molten glass on beds of molten metal.

If the permit is approved, the total maximum air emissions would be limited to protect public health and the environment. Ohio EPA does not have regulatory authority over issues such as siting, eminent domain, setbacks to homes, schools or businesses, noise levels, traffic, zoning or property value effects.

Written comments are considered the same as verbal testimony presented at the hearing. Written comments must be received by the close of business on May 6, 2019. Comments can be mailed to Mark Barber, Ohio EPA Northwest District Office, 347 North Dunbridge Road, Bowling Green, OH 43402, or emailed to mark.barber@epa.ohio.gov.

A copy of the draft permit is available online.
