From OLD GILEAD BOOKSTORE
In celebration of America’s 250th birthday, the Old Gilead Bookstore will sponsor a historical program at its location on Saturday, July 10, at noon, presented by Mike McMaster. This will be one of the events during Rapids Rally by the River weekend in Grand Rapids.
McMaster is educational coordinator for the Wood County Museum, and the title of his presentation is “Missionaries of the Maumee.” This is a historical program, not a religious program. He will be presenting a history of the early Americans in the Maumee River area, and a slide show will be part of the program.
From serving as a school teacher to being the educational coordinator at the museum, local historian McMaster’s passion for education can be seen through his endeavors to expose local history to the people of Wood County. Following his teaching career, he returned to college to earn a bachelor’s degree in American Culture Studies. McMaster gives approximately 112 talks yearly at schools and senior centers that focus on varying topics about Ohio, Wood County, and national history.
Old Gilead Bookstore is located at 24139 Front St. in Grand Rapids. The talk will be presented on the second floor of the store, and there is no elevator available. The community is invited to an informative presentation about local history and help celebrate this special year in the nation’s history. Admission is free and open to the public.
