Each week I send three little Knights off to Otsego Elementary. There, they are met by the finest teachers I have ever encountered. They learn in an incredible environment enriched by technology, and they are nurtured, challenged, and safe in a school system I have grown to trust and appreciate. We are incredibly fortunate to live, work and own a business in the Otsego School District.
Asking for more money in an economy like this is never easy. Families and businesses are feeling the squeeze as they try to provide with rising costs. Schools are no different. Costs of operating our schools, just like operating our households and businesses, have gone up and now is the time we must rely on our community to help. For the first time in over 20 years Otsego needs our support with a new short-term five (5) year income tax levy on the ballot this March. It is both impressive and commendable to think that it has been 20+ years since the Board of Education has asked for additional support. Think of all we have accomplished in 20 years; new schools, upgraded technology, outstanding academics, enriching extra-curriculars, elite community events, and a truly engaged and thriving student population. Think of what we can accomplish, and the kind of future leaders that will be developed from this District in the next 20 with your support.
Otsego has the lowest per pupil spending in the entire county. The administration has been fiscally responsible, and conservative, with their budget and funds. As a business owner the transparency and accountability they have shown is important to me, and I firmly believe they have earned our trust.
On March 19 I will have the opportunity to cast a YES vote for Otsego Schools to show my support, to publicly declare my trust, and allow our school district to continue to thrive for my children and the generations to come. I sincerely hope you will join me.
