Sheriff & state patrol announce enforcement initiatives

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting increased patrol starting Friday, Aug. 16 through Saturday, Aug. 31 thanks to grant funding from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office during the National Blitz Campaign “Drive Sober Get Pulled Over.”

Deputies will pay particular attention for violations, such as driving under the influence, failure to yield, and speeding; all of which are leading factors in fatal crashes.

There will be zero tolerance for driving under the influence and seat belt violations.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers. The location of the checkpoint will be announced Friday morning.

There were 11,278 OVI-related crashes in which 672 people were killed last year in Ohio,” said Lieutenant Matthew N. Geer, commander of the Bowling Green Patrol Post.  Troopers on average make 15,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat impaired driving.

OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.
