State patrol investigating car-train crash in Perrysburg Township

Troopers from the Bowling Green Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a crash involving a passenger car and a train on U.S. 20 near Lime City Road in Perrysburg Township.

On Oct. 31, at approximately 3:08 a.m., a Chevy Cruze operated by Bradford Elton, 29, of Perrysburg, was traveling west on Route 20. Elton performed a left turn next to the railroad tracks and stopped his vehicle on the tracks. He was unable to move his vehicle when a CSX train traveling south struck the car.

Elton was able to get out of his vehicle prior to the impact occurring and was not injured. None of the three occupants on the train were injured.

Elton was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence and performing an improper turn.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Perrysburg Township Police Department, Perrysburg Township Fire and EMS, VJ’s Towing and CSX personnel.
