After being sidelined by COVID, the Take Back the Night event for this region is returning on Saturday, April 2.
The international movement stands against sexual and intimate partner violence. This year’s event will be held in the Student Union at the University of Toledo. Doors open at 5 p.m., with a program at 6 p.m., and a march beginning at 7:45 p.m.
The goal is to raise awareness about violence against women and marginalized identities, said Danielle Lutman, program manager for Gender Equity Student Initiatives at the Catharine S. Eberly Center for Women.
“We recognize violence takes a lot of forms,” including sexual assault, harassment, stalking, rape and domestic violence, Lutman said.
“Everybody has a role to play in ending sexual violence and intimate partner abuse,” she said. “There are no communities that don’t experience it.”
The Bowling Green State University Women’s Center will be bringing students up to participate in the Take Back the Night event.
Information tables at the event will include representation from the Northwest Ohio Feminist Alliance, Agnes Reynolds Jackson Fund, Women of Toledo, Human Trafficking Coalition, NAMI, YWCA of Northwest Ohio, Cocoon, Eberly Center, Women’s and Gender Studies at UT, University Counseling Center at UT, Center for Women and Gender Equity at BGSU, Center for Violence Prevention and Education at BGSU, Mindful Behavior, Bethany House, and Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center.
