Bowling Green City School officials were informed Tuesday that the air conditioning of three schools will not be complete when classes start next week.
“As a district, we are disappointed in receiving this news as it was our expectation to have this completed by the start of school,” Superintendent Francis Scruci wrote in an email to parents and staff. “Everyone involved in this project is doing everything to expedite the situation and bring this project to completion as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of the supply chain.”
Scruci wrote that the district has been pleased with the work done at the high school, Conneaut and Kenwood elementaries, by Earl Mechanical and Lake Erie Electric.
“They have worked diligently to install the mini-split units to provide air conditioning to those three buildings. Everything was going as planned and the project was progressing on schedule. However, as has been reported through the media, there have been supply chain issues throughout the country. Up until today, that had not impacted this project.”
“Today, I was made aware that the critical parts needed to complete the project by the manufacturer are behind schedule. Therefore these parts have not been shipped,” Scruci wrote.
The $3.5 million cooling project includes 167 mini-split systems and six rooftop units, which will supply air conditioning to more than 260,000 square feet of school buildings.
The middle school and Crim Elementary already have air conditioning.
