From WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY

Wildfire smoke from Canada is pushing down and will cover the northern half of Ohio by this afternoon, July 16. Wood County is under a Hazardous Air Quality Index (AQI) which is expected to last into tomorrow afternoon evening, July 17.

Current AQI readings in the area range from 428 to 733. This range is considered hazardous, and is the highest designation on the chart. This high AQI has never been experienced in our area and needs to be taken seriously.

People may remember that in 2023 there were air quality issues from wildfires in Canada. For comparison, the AQI at that time was near 200 and was classified as unhealth/very unhealthy.

Today and tomorrow it is recommended everyone limit their time outdoors, avoiding physical activity outdoors. For sensitive or vulnerable groups, remain indoors and keep activity levels low.

Wood County EMA will continue to provide updates as deemed appropriate.
