From GRAND RAPIDS HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Micah Nicol & Friends will present the next program of the “Rhythm on the River” arts series in Grand Rapids on Sunday, July 26, at 4 p.m. The programs are held in the Wright Pavilion located on the towpath between the canal and the Maumee River at the end of Lincoln Street behind LaRoe’s Venue. The “Rhythm” programs are sponsored by the Grand Rapids Historical Society and are free and open to the public.
Micah Nicol grew up with a mandolin in one hand and a banjo in the other playing bluegrass and classic country music with his father. Nicol has had stints as a semi-professional actor; competitive ballet, tap, jazz, and ballroom dancer; and was awarded Best Performer and Best Male Soloist a record six times as part of Singsation, a show choir from Wapakoneta. He received a Music Production & Engineering degree from Berklee College of Music as a pianist and spends most of his musical life as a guitarist and singer for The Ruta Beggars and Bookmatch.
Nicol has a deep love for musical theater and content creation and lives parallel lives as a magician, unicyclist, and clown. He will be joined by his father, Mike Nicol, who grew up in a Christian home in Milford Center where he learned to play harmonica, guitar, and fiddle from his father, and he developed a life-long passion for bluegrass, country, and gospel music. He is a singer and songwriter and plays guitar, mandolin, piano, and organ and also plays some bass, harmonica, and dobro for variety. Micah Nicol has had opportunities all over the world to play and sing a variety of music in various settings.
People are invited to bring their lawn chairs or blankets and join the Grand Rapids Historical Society in this setting alongside the Maumee River and enjoy these country and bluegrass musicians. In case of rain, the program will be moved to the old fire station, farther west on Front Street.
