BG man arrested after allegedly leading police on high speed chase that ended in crash in Maumee

A Bowling Green man suspected in a theft reportedly led law enforcement on a high speed chase that began in Bowling Green, continued through Perrysburg, then ended in a crash in Maumee.

Jeffrey Hunt II, 24, was arrested for theft and failure to comply with police orders, then taken to Wood County Jail.

Bowling Green Police were called after two lawn maintenance workers reported that Hunt had stolen their AirPods and walked into his apartment in the 1000 block of North Grove Street.

Bowling Green State University Police later responded to a call involving Hunt, who reportedly ignored lights and sirens from law enforcement, and sped up to 64 mph on North Main Street, then ran a right light at Newton Road.

BGPD followed as Hunt turned east on Devils Hole Road, reaching speeds over 100 mph, running stop signs, and going airborne at railroad tracks.

Hunt reportedly turned north on North Dunbridge Road, passed a “road closed” sign, and sped through an active construction zone with workers present. According to the police report, Hunt turned east on Ohio 582, then north on Ohio 199. Ohio State Patrol troopers were also in pursuit.

Hunt reportedly drove through Perrysburg, over the bridge into Maumee, then crashed into a vehicle at the intersection of Conant Street and Dudley Street. When a BGPD officer arrived, he reportedly saw a trooper in a struggle with Hunt. They were able to get him face down on the ground and handcuffed.

Hunt’s vehicle caught on fire. The stolen AirPods were reportedly found in his pocket.
