James Richard Steele, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on August 30, 2025, at the age of 66. He was born on May 7, 1959, in Gallipolis, Ohio, to William and Ruth (Yohe) Steele.
James graduated from Otsego High School in 1977 and later earned a certificate in Maintenance Mechanic and Technical Engineering from Owens. He served his country in the US Air Force from 1978 to 1981. He dedicated his career to being a maintenance mechanic, last working at Morgan, in Fostoria.
James was married to his true love, Lamona “Mona” Sharp, for 48 wonderful years. Together, they raised a beautiful family that includes their children, James Eugene (LeeAnn) Steele and Molly Ann (Jeremy) Spanfellner. He was also a proud grandfather to his grandsons: Nathaniel, Tyler, Logan, Andrew, and Brayden.
An outdoorsman at heart, James had a passion for riding motorcycles and cherished the many trips he took with his friends, often fueled by his love for hot dogs at his favorite spots, Remo’s and Hillbilly Hot Dogs. He founded the “Riding for Good Food” motorcycle club, bringing together those who shared his love for the open road and good eats.
James is survived by his loving wife, children, grandsons, parents William and Ruth Steele, and siblings Lorilei Balraj and Harry William (Lisa) Steele. He is preceded in death by his brother Michael and brother-in-law Timothy Balraj.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate James’s life on September 5, 2025. A memorial gathering will be held at Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home & Crematory from11:00 AM until the time of his Celebration of Life service at 1:00 PM.
