BG Police arrest man after license plate camera hits on stolen vehicle

A Bowling Green man was arrested Saturday for receiving stolen property, after BG Police reportedly stopped him while driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen a few hours before.

The stolen vehicle was reported Saturday (Oct. 11) around 5 a.m. The driver said he had arrived at his friend’s apartment in the 500 block of Frazee Avenue around 10:30 the night before and was unable to locate it the next morning.

The driver said he had left the keys in the unlocked 2024 Dodge Durango.

Officers checked if the vehicle had been impounded, towed or repossessed, and checked surrounding parking lots but could not find the Durango.

At 8:15 the same morning, one of the license plate cameras in the city hit on the stolen vehicle. Police followed the vehicle back to the 500 block of Frazee Avenue.

Ilyaas Haji, 24, was arrested for receiving stolen property and driving under a 12-point suspension. He was taken to Wood County Jail.
