Ellin Marie Dinse Stoots, 78, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away October 12, 2025. She was born July 24, 1947 to Richard and Rose Dinse in Cleveland, Ohio. She grew up in Independence, Ohio, alongside her siblings Michael and Jane. Ellin came to Bowling Green in 1965 to study education at Bowling Green State University. Ellin obtained a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from BGSU. She dedicated her career to Wood Lane Schools from 1970-2001 where she met her lifelong friends. During this time, Ellin also raised her three children— Cully, Jessie, and Abby Brimecombe. In 1998, Ellin married David Stoots and gained four children— Julie, Jason, Jeff, and Jared Stoots. Ellin and David spent their years together living in their charming yellow house on the corner of Wallace Ave and Meeker Street. This iconic house is filled with loving memories of many family and friend visits over the years.
To Ellin, education was not just a career. She loved to do research, volunteer at the historical society to roleplay as a pioneer, and create binders displaying local and familial history. In her retirement, she spent her time teaching her grandchildren (Lauren, Alyssa, Kylee, Jenna, Annabelle, Madeline, and Emma) about history, cooking, genealogy, and more. All of the grandchildren have fond memories of picking out the breakfast menu and cooking with her after family sleepovers. Visits were also filled with field trips to museums, battlefields, and cemeteries. She always intertwined family history into these excursions. Ellin was happiest with a full house of family so she could share stories and always get a family photo in front of the fireplace.
Ellin showed her love for friends and family by cooking for them. Many of you reading this have enjoyed her infamous yogurt bread so the family would like to share the recipe below.
2 cups of sugar
1 cup of butter
2 ¼ cups of flour
1 cup plain yogurt
3 eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of allspice
½ teaspoon of nutmeg
½ teaspoon of salt
½ teaspoon of baking powder
¼ teaspoon of ground cloves
Preheat the oven to 325° degrees. Grease and flour bundt pan. Beat sugar and butter until fluffy. Add flour and other ingredients, beat until well mixed. Bake for 1 hour, cool for 10 minutes, then flip. Dust with powdered sugar. Think of your favorite Ellin story while you bake and enjoy.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the friends and staff at Heritage Corner, who loved and cared for Ellin over the last few years. Visitation will be held on Thursday October 16, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 315 S. College Dr. Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
