BG man charged after reportedly making false report of being hit-skip victim

Bowling Green Police charged a man with making a false police report after he allegedly called 911 to report he had been struck by a car in a hit-skip incident.

On Wednesday (Jan. 14) around 1:23 p.m., the 20-year-old Bowling Green man called police to report he had been walking westbound on East Wooster Street and crossing Baldwin Avenue, when a vehicle “blew” the stop sign at Baldwin. He told police the car hit him then fled from the scene.

The man reportedly said he was injured, so he was transported to Wood County Hospital.

BG Police checked with Bowling Green State University Police to see if there was video of that crosswalk. The video reportedly showed the man walking across Baldwin Avenue safely, bending over, then making a phone call that was later determined to be the 911 call to police.

At the hospital, police told the man of the video, and he reportedly admitted to making up the incident. He reportedly said he started having chest pains due to anxiety, so he called 911 and made up the story.

He received a criminal citation for making a false police report.
