The community is invited to enjoy free family fun on the grounds of the Wood County Museum on Friday, May 1, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.; and Sunday, May 3, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. This living history event features costumed interpreters portraying life during the exploration of the Northwest Territory and the Ohio Country, especially along and near the Portage River in Wood County.

People can experience early settlers, Native Americans, military and political growth, and home life activities. There will be period reenactors from the 1700s to 1800s. Cannon and musket demonstrations will also take place. Schools and groups are welcome to come on Friday, May 1.

In addition to the event schedule, there will also be a historic dance, “Lady Brandeberry’s Ball,” on Saturday, May 2, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. In 2026, in honor of America250, the ball will be themed as a “Presidential Inauguration Ball.” The ball will feature music by The Root Cellar String Band and a dance caller will teach contra dancing with music fitting the era.

Free dance lessons will be available at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2. This historic dance is free for all to attend and costumes are encouraged – think Bridgerton. RSVPs for the ball are appreciated by calling 419-352-0967 or visiting woodcountyhistory.org.

Food trucks Big Daddy’s Sausage House and Denise’s Nuts will be available for food and beverage sales through the weekend. An old-fashioned root beer stand will also be available from the Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor. Restrooms are available on site and parking is free for the event.

This event is co-sponsored by the Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor and the Wood County Museum with additional support from Visit BG Ohio, Sleek Academy, and All About the Kids Learning Center. Other event sponsors include Edwin & Irma Wolf and Dave & Cindy Hollinger.

The Wood County Museum will be open for self-guided tours with paid admission the entire weekend of the event. The museum’s grounds will be open along with several outbuildings including the Lunatic Asylum, Pestilence House, and Ice House.

Event details can be found at www.woodcountyhistory.org and www.maumeevalleyheritagecorridor.org or the Wood County Museum’s or MVHC’s Facebook pages. The Wood County Museum and grounds are located at 13660 County Home Road, Bowling Green.
