Rick Rettig, president of Perrysburg City Council and a veteran educator, has officially announced his intention to seek the Democratic nomination for Ohio’s 75th House District on the Nov. 3 ballot. This announcement follows the decision by candidate Jake Kielmeyer to withdraw from the race.
Rettig enters the race with a commitment to public service and an understanding of the issues facing Ohio families. A staple of Perrysburg High School, Rettig will retire this spring after a 33-year career as a high school English and business teacher, school counselor and athletic coach.
“I want to thank Jake Kielmeyer for his willingness to serve,” said Rettig. “As I prepare to transition from the classroom to the next chapter of my life, I am eager to bring my three decades of experience in education and my leadership on City Council to the Statehouse. I have spent my career listening to students and families; now, I want to be their voice in Columbus.”
As president of the Perrysburg City Council, Rettig has been instrumental in navigating local governance, fostering economic growth, and maintaining the high quality of life that residents expect. His dual background in education and local government positions him as an advocate for school funding, workforce development, and local government autonomy.
“The 75th District deserves a representative who understands that our schools and our local economies are the backbone of our community,” Rettig added. “With 33 years in the schools, I know exactly what our future workforce needs, and as a council president, I know how to get things done.”
The local Democratic Party committee will meet to formalize the process of filling the vacancy on the fall ballot at a later date.
