NAMI Wood County announces upcoming events, classes & support groups

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Wood County is a leading self-help organization offering free events, educational classes, support groups, and other programs that address mental health for the Wood County community. NAMI Wood County has a variety of programming throughout the year! This programming is free and available to all Wood County residents.

NAMI Family and Friends will meet on Thursday, May 14, from 6-8 p.m. on Zoom. This two-hour seminar informs people who have loved ones with a mental health condition how to best support them. It’s also an opportunity to meet other people in similar situations and gain community support. NAMI Wood County will be hosting a Cookies and Canvas fundraiser on Tuesday, May 19, 6 – 8 p.m. at the NAMI Wood County office. An instructor will provide step-by-step guidance to help you create a beautiful flower vase from a book while enjoying delicious desserts. All materials will be provided. Cost is $35 per person. In an expansion of last year’s Mental Health Conference Series, NAMI Wood County will be hosting four webinars in 2026 in a series titled “Caring for a Generation: Supporting Mental Health in Aging.” The next session, “The Role of Occupational Therapy in Mental Health Care for Older Adults: A Collaborative Approach,” will be on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Presenter Carli DiMeo will explore the vital intersection between Occupational Therapy and mental health care, with a specific focus on older adults. NAMI Wood County’s annual Drive Out the Stigma Golf Outing will be Friday, June 5, 2026, at Crosswinds Golf Club in Perrysburg, starting at 8 a.m. This will include a scramble format, raffle baskets, 18 holes of golf and lunch. NAMI Provider is an educational program that introduces mental health professionals to the unique perspectives of people living with mental health conditions and their families. By taking the course, participants will develop enhanced empathy and the importance of including the individual, family members, and mental health professionals in all aspects of the treatment process. If you are interested in volunteering at NAMI Wood County, there are opportunities to get involved as a support group or class facilitator, office volunteer, and more, including “Chip-In Days,” volunteer opportunities for all community members. Hosted on the second Tuesday of each month from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., volunteers will be able to assist NAMI Wood County staff in various projects throughout the office, including (but not limited to) folding brochures, helping with mailings, office organizing, and more.
