From CITY OF BOWLING GREEN
Final asphalt repairs for the South Main Street improvement project are scheduled to take place next week, during the week of June 8. The work, which will be completed at no additional cost to the city, represents one of the final steps toward completing the multi-year infrastructure improvement project.
Construction activities are expected to begin on Monday, June 8, with traffic control measures being established throughout the project area. Milling operations, which involve removing a portion of the existing asphalt surface, are scheduled for June 9 and 10 along South Main Street between Napoleon and Gypsy Lane roads.
Following the milling work, crews are scheduled to complete asphalt paving on June 11 and 12. The work will also include pavement improvements at the intersections. Once paving is complete, final pavement striping will be installed.
Motorists should expect lane restrictions, traffic pattern changes, and potential delays during construction activities. Residents and businesses along the corridor may experience temporary access impacts as work progresses. Efforts will be made to maintain access and minimize disruptions.
Weather conditions may affect the construction schedule. Additional updates will be provided if significant schedule changes become necessary.
Following inspections at the end of the 2025 paving season, the city identified areas of concern and anticipated the need for corrective work once asphalt plants resumed operation in the warmer months. This proactive approach aims to ensure the long-term quality and durability of the roadway.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed by visiting the city’s capital projects map for updates on this and other infrastructure projects.
