Ohio’s first and only female lieutenant governor and governor – Nancy Putnam Hollister – will be at the Wood County library Thursday, Oct. 8, as part of Wood County’s America 250 series of events.
This letter is to encourage the public to join us for Governor Hollister’s presentation, which will include a question-and-answer session. The event, free and open to the public, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s atrium. Reservations are not required.
Governor Hollister has had a fascinating career as mayor of Marietta before joining Governor Voinovich on his ticket in the 1994 election. Following her term as lieutenant governor, Hollister briefly served as governor before Bob Taft was sworn into office early in 1999. Thereafter I had the privilege of serving with her in the Ohio House of Representatives.
Hollister is a member of one of Ohio’s “founding families.” Rufus Putnam was a Revolutionary War general who was known as the “Father of the Northwest Territory” and led the establishment of Marietta, the first permanent settlement in the Northwest Territory.
We are honored here in Wood County that Governor Hollister will make the trip from Marietta to be with us next Thursday. I hope to see you at the library.
