Wood County has recorded three more deaths from COVID in the past day – bringing the total COVID deaths in the county to 120.
Fifteen more COVID hospitalizations were also reported in the past day. Wood County Hospital has 10 patients with COVID today.
The county is now up to 6,923 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 since March, according to the Tuesday, Dec. 15, update from the Wood County Health Department. That’s 149 more cases than on Monday.
The number of active COVID cases in the county is now 473, which is 46 fewer than on Monday. Active cases are Wood County residents who are being monitored by the health department according to state and federal isolation criteria.
A total of 399 local residents have been hospitalized for the coronavirus since March, with 15 more being hospitalized since Monday.
The county has recorded a total of 120 deaths from COVID. Of those, one was in his 30s, two were in their 40s, three were in their 50s, 13 were in their 60s, 26 in their 70s, 50 in their 80s, and 25 in their 90s.
Of the total 6,923 cases in the county as of today, those with the virus ranged in age from 1 to 103, with the median age of 39. Of those testing positive, 3,600 were female, and 3,323 were male.
Cases involving BGSU students and staff who live in surrounding counties and commute are included in BGSU figures, but not Wood County’s total count.
Every Wednesday, the Wood County Health Department lists “active cases” by ZIP codes. As of last week, there were 25 areas in the county with active cases.
The Perrysburg ZIP code area again had the most last week, with 141-145 active cases. Next was Bowling Green, with 111-115 active cases.
Rossford had 31-35 cases, while North Baltimore and Northwood each had 26-30 active cases, and Walbridge had 21-25 cases. Pemberville had 16-20 active cases, and Portage and Weston each had 11-15 cases.
Bradner, Haskins, Luckey and Millbury had 6-10 cases each.
Areas with 1 to 5 cases each included Bloomdale, Custar, Cygnet, Deshler, Fostoria, Grand Rapids, Hoytville, Jerry City, Milton Center, Risingsun, Rudolph and Wayne.
The latest numbers reported for schools (week of Nov. 30) in the county included 64 students and 31 staff:
- All Saints Catholic School: 0 students, 3 staff.
- Bowling Green Christian Academy: 3 students, 1 staff.
- Bowling Green City Schools: 3 students, 3 staff.
- Eastwood: 4 students, 2 staff.
- Lake: 8 students, 4 staff.
- Northwood: 3 students, 1 staff.
- Otsego: 1 student, 1 staff.
- Penta Career Center: 9 students, 2 staff.
- Perrysburg: 30 students, 0 staff.
- Rossford: 1 student, 7 staff.
- St. Aloysius: 0 students, 2 staff.
- St. Rose Preschool: 1 student, 0 staff.
- Wood Lane: 1 student, 2 staff.
- Wood County ESC, 0 students, 3 staff.
Of the total 6,923 cases in Wood County, at least 681 have been in long-term care facilities – 390 were residents and 291 were staff. Those numbers from long-term care facilities are updated every Wednesday.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, at least 81 of Wood County’s 120 deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in long-term care facilities.
