Crim students, staff and community gather to spruce up school grounds

On Saturday, April 30, students, staff and community members gathered to help “spruce” up Crim Elementary.

They met at the Crim flag pole at 9 a.m. and delegated jobs to help clean up around the school. About 40 individuals gathered with gloves, shovels, rakes, and wheelbarrows ready to get started with the clean up effort.

“Many leaves, sticks, and trash blow around our campus because of the parking lots on the west side of our campus,” Crim Principal Zeb Kellough said. “This is a wonderful way we all work together to make our school ready for the spring and summer.”

This coordinated effort was organized by Heather Weilnau, the school secretary, and the office staff of Crim.

“This is a wonderful way to help teach our students about community service and helps show the community the pride we have in our school,” Weilnau said.

“I liked sitting at the tree after cleaning up, eating pizza and talking with my friends. It made me feel proud about how good everything looks,” fifth grader Eli Marten said.

“Having the opportunity to help make our school a better place and watch the pride that our students displayed during the clean up was such an awesome sight,” fifth grade teacher Michelle Thomas said.

Mulch was donated by Sandman “Sales Yard” to help in the effort for beautification. The mulch was hauled by W&W Construction. A big thank you to both companies for making this possible.

Crim has several flower beds that need some new flowers and plants. If you are interested in sponsoring and maintaining a flower bed, contact croffice@bgcs.k12.oh.us. To show appreciation for donations of sponsoring and maintaining one of the flower beds, Crim Elementary will display a sign with your name or business as the sponsor for that flower bed.
