The duo After Ours will bring their “head nod jazz” to Grounds for Thought Sunday, June 18, at 6 p.m. for the monthly free concert series hosted by the shop and BG Independent News.
After Ours brings hybrid 7-string guitarist Eli Kahn and jazz drummer Arthur Schroeder together into what they describe as “a two-man wrecking crew with influences ranging from modern jazz to grunge to instrumental hip hop and experimental music.”
Kahn and Schroeder have worked together for more than 10 years as the rhythm section in different groups and as backing bands from folk to rock to funk to hip hop. They’ve the two musicians have developed a tight chemistry that translates to their original music and interpretations of contemporary and classic tunes.
In her review of their “Random Nuggets” album, Local Spins reviewer Megan Dooley described their sound as “uber-smooth and almost unrecognizably unique instrumental arrangements of popular tunes like ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears, ‘Black Hole Sun’ by Sound Garden, and even some Radiohead, this album plays on listener expectations and promptly turns them upside down in the best way.”
