Bowling Green Superintendent Ted Haselman reported Tuesday on the donations from the community to the school district last month totaling $19,537. Those donations included funding for: After Prom, Drama Club, Inspirational Educator Awards, Conneaut Elementary, Bobcat Basics, new mascot costume, lunches, Fifth Grade Camp, snacks, winter clothing and hygiene products, books and school supplies.
Donations were also made to scholarships, including the Lauren Rex Memorial Scholarship; the Panksepp, Quinn, Sanders & Wolfe Scholarship; and the Patrick De Luca Memorial Scholarship.
Also during Tuesday’s school board meeting, StuCrew members Ela Ostrowski and Tessa Kirchner asked for the community’s help with a district-wide book drive for Wood County Job and Family Services. The books may be dropped off at any of the school offices.
“Please donate books, it’s a good cause,” Ostrowski said.
A printed list was available at the board meeting from Tara Loar, who gathers information each month about the needs at each school building that community members can help with, including:
- Kenwood Elementary – snacks and small cups for water.
- Conneaut Elementary – case of water, youth underwear, youth pants and youth shorts.
- Crim Elementary – small, medium and large unisex sweatpants, plus Goldfish and CheezIt crackers.
- Middle School – granola bars, breakfast bars.
- High School – packaged snacks, no peanut products.
- Food service – assistance is available for school lunch balances, but families need to reach out. Families in need should contact Tabitha Hiler-Young for assistance. Donations can be made to the central office to help pay negative school lunch balances.
Donations may be made to each individual school, or be sent to the middle school with a notation of where the donation should go.
