Geraldine “Gerry” Grindstaff, age 87, of Woodville, Ohio, passed away peacefully Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Bridge Hospice Care in Bowling Green. Gerry was born July 14, 1929 in Woodville, OH to Gottlieb and Ella (Tille) Layman. She later graduated from Genoa High School. On August 31, 1949, she married Robert Grindstaff in Covington, KY. Together they would raise two sons. After nearly 40 years of marriage Robert passed away on June 4, 1986. In addition to raising their two sons Gerry worked at numerous jobs among them included; The Genoa Pharmacy, Woodville Pharmacy, Montgomery Wards, Kresge Department Store and Hidden Hills Golf Club. She had been a previous member at Clay Center Presbyterian Church were she taught Sunday school and later at Solomon Lutheran Church in Woodville where in addition to teaching Sunday school she also participated in Stephen Ministries. She enjoyed flower gardening and was a proud volunteer reading tutor at Woodmore Elementary. However, among her greatest joys was the delight she took in her granddaughters and great granddaughters.
Gerry is survived by her sons: Gerald (Ellen) Grindstaff of Toledo, James (Mary) Grindstaff of Wayne, granddaughters: Michelle (Jared Schuetter) Grindstaff of Columbus, Kathryn (Jeff) Gregorsok of Bowling Green, Kristin (Corey) Trobaugh of Indianapolis, IN, great granddaughters: Claudia Jane Schuetter, Vivian Rose Schuetter, Jemma Rose Gregorsok, Sister: Gladys Lutes of Northwood, brothers: Ralph (Joann) Layman of LA, Kenneth Layman of FL, and sister-in-law: Barbara Layman of GA. In addition to her husband Robert, she was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Eileen Hoffman, Mildred Gregg, Phyllis Layman, brothers: Russell Layman and Willard Layman.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, January 23, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 PM at the Marsh Funeral Home, 201 West Main Street, Woodville, OH. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 11 AM from Solomon Lutheran Church, Woodville, OH with additional visitation from 10 AM until time of services. Officiating will be Rev. Kristina Ahlman. Interment will be in Westwood Cemetery, Woodville. There will be a bereavement luncheon served at the church immediately following the cemetery committal services.
