Mark John Asmus

Mark John Asmus, 68, of Lerona, WV and formerly of Bowling Green, OH, died unexpectedly Sunday, September 8th at his home in West Virginia.  Mark was born December 13, 1955, in Toledo, OH to the late Marcus and Mary Asmus.

Mark graduated from Eastwood High School (Pemberville) Class of 1973.   Mark was a retired engineer with BMC in Perrysburg and upon retirement moved to West Virginia.  Mark loved the outdoors and was a train enthusiast.  He was also an avid football fan, especially following the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns.  Mark was a life-long scout, having participated as a child with Troop 330 in Scotch Ridge and later as a Boy Scout leader for his sons.  Mark learned carpentry skills from his father at a young age and used those skills throughout his life including rebuilding a cabin from the ground up and helping customers at the local Ace Hardware in retirement.  Mark was active in Mount Jackson Baptist Church in West Virginia and Grace Brethren in Bowling Green before that.

Mark is survived by his wife of 18 years, Lonna Asmus and his two sons Mark (Tutsy) Asmus, and Andrew (Katerina) Asmus.  His five grandchildren held a special place in his heart: Benjamin, Lucy, John, Patrick and Henry Asmus.  Mark is also survived by his sister Ann (Joe) Cajka along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and two brothers-in-law Greg (Sharon) and Gary Zenker.

In accordance with his wishes, Mark’s ashes will be spread in the mountains of West Virginia.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Arlyn’s Good Beer, 520 Hankey Ave in Bowling Green, on Sunday, September 22nd from 12-2pm.  Friends and family are invited to come share stories and memories and feel free to honor Mark by wearing a Hawaiian shirt or Browns gear.
